Newly registered voters nearing 1 million – Comelec

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 15) – With over a week before the closing of the latest voter’s registration period, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported that the number of newly registered voters is getting close to one million.

Comelec spokesperson Atty. Rex Laudiangco said there are 909,687 new registered voters as of July 12.

More than half of them belong to the 15-17 age bracket with a total of 571,740 voters, based on the report provided by the poll body.

It is followed by the 289,206 new voters in the 18-30 years old bracket.

Around 48,741 persons aged 31 and above also signed up as new voters.

The Comelec added that it has processed over 1.2 million voter registration applications as of July 12, including those who wish to reactivate their voting record, transfer their area of voting locally, and transfer from an overseas voter to local.

The poll body opened the voter’s registration period on July 4 for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections slated for December.

The registration period will only run until July 23. Those who wish to register may go to their nearest local Comelec office from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
