Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 14) — The country recorded 2,371 additional COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest since February 16, the Department of Health’s (DOH) tracker showed.
The new infections have pushed the total cases to 3,725,382.
Active cases, meanwhile, now stand at 16,244.
The new cases are also higher than the number of daily COVID-19 infections reported in the week of July 4 to 10, which was at 1,467, based on the DOH’s previous bulletin.
Of all the regions, Metro Manila tallied the highest number of new COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days with 8,598, followed by Calabarzon with 4,212 new cases, and the Western Visayas with 1,735.
Quezon City led the list of cities with the highest number of new infections in the same period with 1,709, followed by Cavite and Manila with 1,496 and 1,098, respectively.
In a briefing Thursday, Infectious diseases expert Dr. Edsel Salvaña said COVID-19 is already transitioning from pandemic to endemic as deaths and severe cases drop.
The virus transmission, however, is still a problem as long as many people remain unvaccinated and unboosted, Salvaña argued.
