UAAP: Homegrown Tina Salak is new head coach of FEU Lady Tamaraws

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 13) — A university belt women’s volleyball team got a new head coach, and a homegrown talent to boot.

Now a national team coaching staff member, Tina Salak will lead her alma mater’s team, according to the Far Eastern University on Wednesday, replacing George Pascua as the Lady Tamaraws gear up for UAAP Season 85.

Salak’s entry is seen to improve the team’s dismal performance in Season 84: only one win in 14 matches.

“Coach Tina brings a wealth of experience and championship pedigree as a player and a coach as she returns to her alma mater,” the FEU athletics department said in a statement.

During her collegiate days, Salak won two UAAP championships and was awarded Most Valuable Player in 1995.

She was also a four-time Southeast Asian Games medalist and was Best Setter during the 2001 tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Salak was former head coach of De La Salle Zobel girls volleyball team, which won the championship in the UAAP junior’s division in Season 81.

UAAP junior’s division in Season 81.

FEU has the most UAAP women’s volleyball titles with 29. The Lady Tamaraws last won the championship in Season 70.
