Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 28)— China’s Vice President Wang Qishan will attend the inauguration of the Philippines’ incoming leader Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in Manila this week.
This was confirmed by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
In a statement, the agency said Wang will serve as the “special representative” of Chinese President Xi Jinping during Marcos’ oath-taking at the National Museum. No further details about his attendance were provided.
The official joins several other international personalities who have confirmed their attendance for Marcos’ inauguration.
United States’ Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff — husband of Vice President Kamala Harris — was designated by President Joe Biden to lead America’s delegation for the event.
