(CNN Philippines, June 19) — RJ Abarrientos is reportedly leaving the Far Eastern University after just one season in the seniors men’s basketball of the UAAP.
According to Korean sports website Jumpball, the crafty guard is set to sign with the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis for the 2022-23 Korean Basketball League (KBL) season under the Asian Players Quota.
Abarrientos will join fellow Gilas Pilipinas player SJ Belangel in the KBL after the former Ateneo de Manila University cager agreed to a two-year deal with Daegu KOGAS Pegasus.
The 22-year-old Abarrientos delivered impressive performances in Gilas Pilipinas’ back-to-back friendly games against Korea.
The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 13.8 points on 32 percent shooting from deep, along with 4.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in his first year with FEU.
Abarrientos has at least three more playing years with FEU that placed fourth in UAAP Season 84 with a 7-7 win-loss record.
Ulsan finished fourth in the last KBL season with a 30-24 slate, reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament.
