(CNN Philippines, June 16) — Filipino big man Kai Sotto was among the players who worked out with the Sacramento Kings Thursday ahead of the NBA Draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on June 24.
The 20-year-old cager joined Jacob Gilyard, Fatts Russell, Yoan Makoundou, Karlo Matkovic, and Yannick Nzosa in the session of the Kings, who own the fourth overall pick in the upcoming draft.
The workout gave Sotto the chance to share the court with former Gilas Pilipinas captain and PBA star Jimmy Alapag, who now serves as assistant coach of the Stockton Kings, Sacramento’s G League affiliate.
Sotto has done pre-draft workouts with other NBA teams like the Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Sotto is looking to make history as the first homegrown Filipino to be drafted in the NBA. He hopes to follow the footsteps of Filipino-American players Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz and Jalen Green of the Houston Rockets.
