Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 17) — Current House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco has expressed support to House Majority Leader and re-elected Leyte First District Representative Martin Romualdez to succeed him in the 19th Congress.
“His strong leadership and support as our Majority Leader was crucial to the passage of relevant and timely pandemic-response measures and the approval of important and key laws that will have immense impact to stir and sustain our economic growth and development as we continue to navigate to new normal,” Velasco said in a statement on Tuesday.
On Saturday, Romualdez scored endorsements from former President and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and two other political parties: Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan faction of President Rodrigo Duterte, and Nacionalista.

On Sunday, top officials of the Nationalist People’s Coalition also presented the party’s manifesto of support for Romualdez’ speakership.
