Salvaña, a member of the DOH Technical Advisory Group, said his focus remains on pandemic response efforts.
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 16) — Infectious diseases expert Dr. Edsel Salvaña said he is aware of rumors that he could be appointed as the next secretary of the Department of Health under the Marcos administration, but refused to comment on the issue pending confirmation.
“No comment muna ako [I will not comment for now]. Let’s go through the official channels kung meron man. I’d rather focus on our COVID prevention and control right now,” he said in the government-led Laging Handa briefing.
He also said the next administration should focus on continuing the Duterte administration’s efforts to prevent a COVID-19 surge.
The camp of apparent presidential winner Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos earlier denied the veracity of the photo circulating on social media which supposedly shows the officials being eyed for Marcos’ Cabinet, including Salvaña as the successor of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
