Jocel Lyn Ninobla defends poomsae individual recognized crown

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 16) – Jocel Lyn Ninobla shone the brightest for the Philippine poomsae team in the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Monday at the Tay Ho Gymnasium.

Ninobla retained her women’s individual recognized event crown after getting a score of 7.765 from the judges.

Hometown bet Tran Kim Uyen Le got the silver with 7.649, and Thailand’s Ornawee Srisahakit and Indonesia’s Defia Rosmaniar were awarded with bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the Philippines also won two silver medals in the team events.

The group of Janna Oliva, Juvenile Crisostomo, Justin Kobe Macario, Darius Venerable, and Jeordan Dominguez landed a runner-up finish in the mixed freestyle team event with a score of 7.366.

Only three nations competed in the event, where host country Vietnam clinched the gold and Laos winning the bronze medal.

The five Filipino poomsae practitioners duplicated their silver medal finish three years ago.

The trio of Patrick King Perez, Raphael Enrico Mella, and Rodolfo Reyes, Jr. also tallied a silver finish in the men’s recognized team event after getting a score of 7.732 points.

The host nation received the gold medal, while Singapore and Indonesia shared the bronze medal honors.

After the poomsae event, the kyorugi competitions will kick off on Tuesday as Filipino taekwondo jins led by Olympians Kirstie Alora and Kurt Barbosa seek to continue their regional dominance in the sport.
