
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 15) – The six-strong Philippine jiu-jitsu team who competed in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam will not go home empty handed.
The three remaining fighters who traded blows with the region’s best on Sunday produced a silver and two bronze medals in the last day of competition at the Dan Phuong Gymnasium.
Jolly Co was the sole silver medalist after she lost to hometown bet Hue Phung Thi in the women’s 45kg division finals.
Jan Vincent Cortez settled for a bronze medal in the men’s 56kg category after he was beaten by hometown sensation Hong Son Dao in the semifinals.
The last bronze medal came from Marc Lim, who was listed in the men’s 69kg division, after he fell to Singapore’s Noah Tian Run Lim in the semifinals.
Overall, the Filipino jiu-jitsu fighters will bring home two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.
On Saturday, Meggie Ochoa and Annie Ramirez won gold medals in their respective categories, while Carlo Peña achieved a silver medal finish in the men’s 62kg division.
