Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 15) – Filipino wushu sensation Agatha Wong bounced back hard on Sunday as she clinched her second straight SEA Games gold medal in the women’s taolu taijijian event at the Cau Giay Gymnasium.
Wong notched a close win after finishing with a score of 9.71, a very narrow lead from the 9.70 of silver medalist and hometown bet Thi Minh Huyen Tran and the 9.69 tallied by bronze medalist and also homegrown athlete Thi Kieu Trang Tran.
The result was a retribution for the 23-year-old Filipina wushu star, who also lost by the slimmest of margin in winning the silver medal in the women’s taijiquan event on Saturday. The bridesmaid finish ended Wong’s reign in the event, where she won the golds in the 2017 and 2019 SEA Games.

“I’m so thankful,” Wong said. “We must remember there’s still a pandemic. Yesterday, I was so thankful that I got a silver. Even if I win bronze, I’d still be thankful.”
Meanwhile, the remaining Filipino taolu practitioners Thornton Sayan and Johnzenth Gajo failed to land a podium finish in their respective events.
Sayan almost nabbed the bronze after his fourth place finish in the men’s nangun with a score of 9.67.
Gajo finished in seventh spot in the men’s daoshu and gunshu event.
