Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 11) – The Philippine kurash team added on Wednesday two more medals to the country’s tally in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.
After winning the country’s first four medals in the pandemic-delayed biennial sports event on Tuesday, the Filipino kurash athletes added a silver from Sydney Sy and a bronze from playing national team head coach Al Llamas.
Llamas relayed the development to CNN Philippines.

Sy, who competed in the women’s +87kg division, defeated Malaysia’s Nor Izzatul Fazlia Mohamad Tahir in the preliminaries and hometown bet Thi Thanh Thuy Tran in the semifinals.
Sy lost to Myanmar’s Aye Aye Aung in the finals as the Filipina took home the silver, an improvement from her bronze medal finish in 2019.
Meanwhile, Llamas recorded his second straight SEA Games bronze medal finish by beating Thailand’s Seksan Arnkhian in the preliminaries before losing to hometown bet Hai Le Cong Hoang in the semifinals of the men’s -60kg category.
Adrian Josef Perillo was the only Filipino kurash athlete who had a fruitless campaign on Wednesday after he succumbed to Vietnam’s Duc Dong Le in the men’s -66kg division preliminaries.
So far, the Philippine kurash team is the biggest contributor in the country’s medal haul with six medals.
The Philippines now has one gold, five silvers, and five bronzes in the 31st SEA Games, a day before the formal opening ceremony on Thursday.
