Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 10) — The Commission on Elections has credited preparation leading to faster transmission of elections results in this year’s elections.
“It’s more on the preparation,” said Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo in a message to reporters on Tuesday.
As of 8 a.m., 96.84% of clustered precincts have transmitted voting results.
It means only 3,350 precincts have yet to complete sending of votes.
As part of the preparation, Casquejo cited improved contract and media server to prevent seven-hour glitch.
He also noted that during the pre-logical accuracy test, Comelec included this time a test of transmission package in all vote counting machines (VCMs).
Casquejo added that the poll body also conducted stress tests on 106,174 VCMs.
The International Certification Entity also certified all the processes in the transmission, he added.
Casquejo also said that the poll body used the actual data center during the field test and mock election to test the connectivity of VCMs.
Despite the faster transmission of results, the election day was marred with reports of faulty VCMs in several polling areas. With this, netizens, groups, and even candidates themselves urged the Comelec to extend the voting hours.
Some 1,800 VCMs malfunctioned on Monday; most had paper jams, rejected ballots, and had faulty scanners.
The Comelec said these issues have been resolved onsite.
