DOH logs 1,124 new COVID-19 cases; 42 new deaths during the week of May 2 to 8

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 9) — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,124 new COVID-19 infections and 42 new fatalities during the week of May 2 to 8.

In its weekly case bulletin posted on Monday, the DOH said the daily average of that week was 161, 20% lower than the previous week. There were also 14 new severe and critical cases recorded.

Of the new deaths, only eight occurred from April 25 to May 8, while the rest were traced back to previous months, including as early as June 2021, the DOH said.

For the healthcare utilization rate, 15.4% of non-intensive care unit (ICU) beds are occupied — or 3,664 out of 23,818 beds — while 16.8% of ICU beds (474 out of 2,817 beds) are being used. There are also 611 severe and critical cases which meant staying in hospitals, comprising 11.9% of total COVID-19 admissions, the bulletin showed.

The vaccination coverage rate for the target population reached 76.04%, and 77.12% for the target elderly population (A2 group). There are a total of more than 68.44 million vaccinated persons, including 526,334 who received their shots in the past week.

Meanwhile, more than 13.45 million have been boosted, including 223,224 additional boosted individuals in the recent week.
