Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 30) — The Far Eastern University on Friday said it remains ‘apolitical’ after some players of its volleyball team, Lady Tamaraws, showed support for Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte in a Facebook post made by a page bearing the name of the team.

In the post, volleyball athletes Ash Cañete, Lycha Ebon, Jean Asis, Niks Medina, Shiela Kiseo, and Chen Tagaod were seen wearing shirts in support of the UniTeam flagbearers.

It was later clarified that the page bearing the name of the school’s volleyball team was fan-made.

The FEU management expressed that the school is apolitical and that the Facebook post “do not represent the University.”

“FEU has been traditionally apolitical. FEU students and employees can endorse any candidate running for elections in their own personal capacity,” the university wrote in its statement.

Rem Palma, former Lady Tamaraws team captain, took to Twitter the call to report the page, which was perceived by many as the official page of the team. She also called out to netizens to let the incident serve as a lesson to everybody when it comes to sharing information.

“I hope the incident serves as a lesson to everybody. Always keep in mind that whatever we share online should be double-checked before posting. I hope whoever is behind this fuss learned his lesson after causing so much commotion. There will always be consequences for every act,” Palma wrote.
