
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 29) – Ateneo De Manila University led 15 Philippine universities and colleges in a ranking of educational institutions that contributed to achieving Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
The 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings measured the contributions of 1,406 schools in 106 countries and regions in meeting the SDGs, a collection of global targets to improve living conditions, in particular to reduce poverty and protect the planet, from 2015 through 2030.
Ateneo was the highest ranked Philippine school as it was grouped within the 101-200 group, an improvement from within the 201-300 spot last year.
The Commission on Higher Education said Ateneo’s standing was the highest ranking for any Philippine school since THE Impact Rankings began in 2019.
De La Salle University and Mariano Marcos State University in Ilocos Norte were in the 401-600 bracket.
Four universities entered the 601-800 list, namely, Central Luzon State University, Mapua University, Tarlac Agricultural University, and University of Santo Tomas.
Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, San Beda University, and Visayas State University made it to the 801-1000 group.
The remaining Philippine schools which were part of the 1001+ bracket are Cebu Technological University, St. Paul University Philippines, University of Asia and the Pacific, and Tarlac State University.
The metrics were based on the 17 UN SDGs, and divided into research, teaching, outreach, and stewardship.
Western Sydney University in Australia topped the global ranking, followed by the Arizona State University (Tempe) in the United States.
