Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 28)— Kai Sotto is ready to make the jump to the NBA.
The Filipino basketball star announced on Thursday that he has declared for the 2022 rookie draft, after his one-year stint with the Adelaide 36ers in the Australian National Basketball League.
“I have declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. Please pray for and support me during my quest to fulfill my ultimate dream,” the 19-year-old Sotto wrote on his Instagram page.
In his one season with the Australian squad, the 7-foot-3 center averaged 7.52 points on 50% shooting and 4.48 rebounds in just over 15 minutes per game.
Sotto thanked the 36ers management and community for taking him under their wing.
“I am a better man and a better professional player than a year ago because you all took me under your wing and challenged and mentored me to live up to expectations,” he said.
The NBA rookie draft will take place on June 23.
