Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 26) — With only a week left before the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament kicks-off, De La Salle University Lady Spikers setter Michelle Cobb announced late Monday that she will forgo her last playing year.
“My journey has been crazy and beautiful at the same time. Ultimately, it has been quite an eventful 2 years and I have made the decision to not continue with collegiate volleyball. I will definitely miss the energy and all the love na wala talagang kupas (unfading love),” said Cobb in an Instagram post. “One thing is for sure though, once a Lady Spiker, always a Lady Spiker.”
Standing at only 5-foot-4, Cobb has two championships under belt in Seasons 79 and 80.
During her sophomore year in Season 80, Cobb had big shoes to fill in after decorated playmaker Kim Fajardo graduated. But she did not disappoint as a starting setter as the Lady Spikers bagged their 11th volleyball crown in the UAAP.
Her UAAP stint was cut short in Season 82 due to the pandemic, playing only a match with the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles.
“Coming into DLSU, all I had was a chance. Holding on to that opportunity regardless of the height requirement. Setting aside the ‘disadvantages’, working twice as much and dedicating my whole self to the sport I learned to love made all the difference,” said Cobb, who did not explain why she was quitting.
“With the volleyball season coming up, I do feel like I owe this post mainly to the Lasallian community. The supporters and fans, I am so grateful for all the love and support you have given me and the team throughout the years,” she added.
The women’s volleyball tournament will start on May 5.
