Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 24) – Reigning Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu looks forward to a lot of things in her brief but packed visit to the Philippines.

Sandhu was all smiles while exiting the plane, as she was greeted by fans and members of the media. She said she wants to try local food and experience Filipino culture in her first visit to the country. She is also looking forward to reunite with her close friend, reigning Miss Universe Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez.

“I cannot contain my excitement to meet the contestants of Miss Universe Philippines. And I can’t wait to explore this beautiful city and take away a lot of beautiful memories. I’m really excited to meet Bea, my friend, Miss Philippines and to make more memories,” she said in a media briefing upon her arrival.

Sandhu is one of many notable guests for the grand coronation night. It will be graced by former Miss Universe winners Iris Mittenaere, Demi-Leigh Tebow and Pia Wurtzbach.

Sandhu revealed to media that she would be part of the judging panel.

Last Sunday afternoon, the beauty queen from India arrived in the country aboard Air Beauty One with LCS Group Chairman Chavit Singson and Vice Chairperson Architect Richelle Singson-Michael.

“I think it’s one of the most difficult things to ever do, to be a part of the judging panel. I have been watching the girls and they have all been incredible. I can’t wait to see and meet them in person to see who has the spark and x-factor to represent this beautiful country and all of you,” she explained.

When asked what qualities the next Miss Universe Philippines must possess, she gave a list of things she would watch out for based on experience. “I think she just needs to be authentic, confident in herself and should be very wise of whatever she believes in and have that daring and courageous attitude to change the world,” she said.

The Philippines is Sandhu’s latest destination following her homecoming to India last month. She hopes to be able to explore the country and have more opportunities to spread her advocacy of menstrual equity during the brief visit.

A total of 32 finalists will compete for the much-coveted crown.

The Singsons hosted the welcome event for the reigning Miss Universe as part of their efforts to make the Miss Universe Philippines pageant an anticipated event in the country.

A preliminary competition will take place on April 27 at The Cove Manila, while the coronation night is set on April 30 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
