DOH logs 1,674 new COVID-19 cases; 200 deaths from April 11 to 17

Over 10,000 more people nationwide caught the coronavirus, while a record 72,607 more patients were cleared of the infection, the DOH reports. Meanwhile, the death toll has inched closer to the 16,000 mark.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 18) — The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 1,674 new COVID-19 infections and 200 fatalities in the week of April 11 to 17.

In the agency’s weekly case bulletin posted on Monday, the daily average that week was 239, which was 12% lower than the previous week.

There was only one new severe or critical case recorded.

Meanwhile, of the 200 new deaths, only 51 occurred this month — and 43 deaths from April 4 to 17 — while the rest were traced back to previous months including as far back as November 2020.

The utilization rate for non-intensive care unit (ICU) beds was at 16.9% or 4,164 out of 24,645 beds. On the other hand, the ICU utilization rate is at 15.8% or 450 out of 2,842 beds.

There are also 664 severe or critical COVID-19 patients currently staying in hospitals, making up 11.5% of total COVID-19 admissions.

For the vaccination rates, 74.28% of the target population and 76.14% of the target elderly population (A2) have received their shots. A total of more than 66.85 million people are fully vaccinated, including 202,154 who received doses in the recent week.

As for boosters, more than 12.64 million people have been boosted, including 164,407 who received their shots in the recent week.
