Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 13) — The Philippine Consulate General in New York is reminding Filipinos there to be vigilant following a Brooklyn subway shooting incident that wounded at least 16 people.

Police said the suspect put on a mask, deployed a gas canister and then began shooting.

“Several undetonated devices were also found at the scene,” the Consulate said. “In view of this, kababayan are requested to be vigilant and to take the necessary precautions as the suspect has not yet been apprehended.”

It also advised Filipinos to avoid the 36th Street Station in Sunset Park in vew of the ongoing investigation in the area.

Filipinos were also told to report to Philippine authorities if they are among the victims so that proper assistance could be extended to them.

In another advisory, the Consulate said the suspect is armed and remains on the loose. A massive police mobilization is ongoing, it added.

“Kababayan are advised to report any abandoned packages on subways, bus stops, or public places, especially along the M, R, and other Brooklyn subway lines,” it said.

The attack is not being investigated as an act of terrorism, but authorities have not ruled anything out, the New York Police commissioner said.
