Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 13) — CNN Philippines again garnered the highest trust rating among news outlets included in a recent nationwide survey by Publicus Asia.
Results of the “Pahayag 2022 First Quarter Survey” showed CNN Philippines is still the “most trusted news outlet” in the country, with a total high trust rating of 49.3%. The organization also took the top spot in a similar poll carried out by the same firm in the final quarter of 2021.
Eighteen national news brands were listed in the independent and non-commissioned survey conducted from March 30 to April 6, and released on Monday.
Completing the top three “most trusted” media outlets were GMA-7 and Philippine Daily Inquirer, which earned a total high trust rating of 46.9% and 40.7%, respectively.
“Another point of interest is SMNI, which doubled its total high trust rating from 16% in December 2021 to 32% in April 2022,” Publicus Asia said.
SMNI is a television channel owned by the controversial Davao-based religious leader Apollo Quiboloy, who earlier expressed his support for presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
Meanwhile, the poll also found social media is the most popular news source in the country, with 73.7% of respondents reporting high usage rates.
Television came second (55.4% high usage rate), followed by radio (30.3%), and print media (26.4%).
Publicus Asia said its survey had 1,500 “randomly” picked respondents, all of whom are registered voters.
According to the firm, the nationwide sample margin of error is +/- 3%. The margin of error in NCR is +/- 7%, and +/- 6% in other regional groupings.
