Agaton caused massive flooding and landslides in many areas, especially in Eastern Visayas where 36 persons were reported dead due to landslides in Baybay City in Leyte alone.
Earlier this morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that Agaton left at least 20 people dead, lower than the number of fatalities recorded by local authorities.
The NDRRMC also said that at least 86,515 families, or 136,390 persons, were affected in the regions of Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.
On Tuesday, PAGASA projected moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, the northern and central portions of Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Antique, Guimaras, and the northern and central portions of Negros Provinces.
Light to moderate with at times heavy rains may be experienced over MIMAROPA, Dinagat Islands, Zamboanga del Norte, Quezon, and the rest of the Bicol Region and Visayas.
With the heavy rains brought by Agaton, Capiz Governor Nonoy Contreras said that some areas in the province are impassable.
The governor asked help from the Armed Forces of the Philippines to deliver relief goods to Capiz via chopper.
“So we’re trying to ask assistance sa AFP baka makahiram tayo ng chopper para magpasa man lang ng ayuda o mga pagkain doon sa mga kababayan natin,” he told CNN Philippines’ Newsroom Ngayon.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 15) — All Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals have been lifted as Tropical Depression Agaton weakens into a low pressure, the state weather bureau reported Tuesday evening.
PAGASA projected moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, the northern and central portions of Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, and the northern and central portions of Negros Provinces until Wednesday night.

“The remnant circulation of Agaton is forecast to track eastward towards the Philippine Sea away from the Samar-Leyte landmass as it merges itself with the larger circulation of Typhoon Basyang outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR),” PAGASA said.
Basyang already left PAR at 1 p.m., the agency said in a 5 p.m. update.
It was located 1,400 kilometers east of Central Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
