Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 12) — The soft opening of the nearly 9-kilometer Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is being eyed before the month ends, CCLEX Corporation president and general manager Allan Alfon said on Tuesday.
Alfon told CNN Philippines’ Traffic Center that they are currently facing “a bit of a challenge” due to bad weather in recent days, but added they are just completing minor works on the expressway.
The ₱30-billion toll bridge will link mainland Cebu to Mactan Island through the municipality of Cordova and is expected to serve at least 50,000 daily, its website said. It was designed for speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour.
Alfon said the CCLEX is the third link between Cebu and Mactan Island, but is the first to introduce an all-electronic toll collection system in that part of the country.
“Effectively, it should decongest the current heavy traffic along the first two bridges to Mactan,” he said.
The toll fees are still being finalized, but Alfon said the range could be between ₱90 and ₱95 for Class 1 vehicles, which include cars, jeepneys, vans, pickup trucks, and motorcycles. He did not give an estimate for buses and bigger trucks.
The construction of the bridge is also seen to boost investments and accelerate economic growth, according to the CCLEX Corporation.
“A lot of investors are already coming in […] which should make the place more alive as the months come,” Alfon said.
