
Tacloban City (CNN Philippines, April 11) — Authorities said the number of casualties caused by Tropical Depression Agaton in Eastern Viayas has reached 23 on Monday.
According to Police Regional Director PBGen Benard Banac, the victims of the Baybay City landslide are from Barangays Mailhi (11 ), Kantagnos (5), Maypatag (2), Candadam (1), Bunga (1), Can-ipa (1), Visayas State University (1).
Of these, only the two from Maypatag have been identified and the rest are still for identification, he noted.
Meanwhile, one death was also reported in Motiong, Samar due to drowning, Eastern Visayas police said.
A total of 105 others were injured and brought to Immaculate Conception Hospital in Baybay City, local police noted.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) earlier said that at least two have been rescued in a landslide in Barangay Bunga.
Six individuals have been reported missing, while 16 people got injured due to Agaton, it added.
Latest count from the regional police showed at least 1, 879 families or 6, 138 individuals were evacuated at the height of typhoon Agaton.
Some 120 areas were flooded, 23 of which are not passable, while 340 areas have no electricity and 36 places without network signal.
At least 10 villages in Baybay City, namely Can-ipa, Mailhi, Bunga, Gacat, Kantagnos, Bubon, Imelda, Makinhas, Maypatag, and Villa Solidaridad, experienced landslide as typhoon Agaton battered the Leyte province.
A total of 15 ships are stranded, including 355 vehicles and 927 passengers.
Regional police sent augmentation teams composed of 100 personnel to Baybay City to help the city’s police personnel, and authorities from the Bureau of Fire Protection, CDRRMO, Leyte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and a team from Ormoc City in the search and rescue operation.
Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez responded Monday afternoon and went with a rescue team to Baybay City, bringing with them a medical team, hygiene kits, medicine, and a generator set.
