Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 10) – Cebu City is the latest area in the country to be placed under a state of calamity due to Tropical Storm Agaton.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama announced on Sunday the emergency declaration due to heavy rains brought by the weather disturbance in the city.

Rama said the downpour caused some flooding in the city, with threats of landslides.

Rama also ordered the suspension of work and classes in Cebu City as a preventive measure, despite the lack of a tropical cyclone wind signal warning from the weather bureau in the area.

Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia issued an order to suspend classes in the entire Cebu province due to the continuous rains.

As of 8 p.m. on Sunday, Agaton was spotted over the coastal waters of Lawaan, Eastern Samar with Signal No. 2 hoisted in parts of Eastern Visayas and Dinagat Islands in Mindanao.

Some areas in the Visayas, including towns in Cebu, and Surigao Del Norte were placed under Signal No. 1.
