Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 6)— More than half of Filipinos expect the country’s economy to improve in 2022, according to an independent pollster.
A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted Dec. 12 to 16 but released only on Wednesday showed 51% of adult Filipinos remain optimistic about the country’s economic recovery in 2022.
Thirty percent meanwhile believe the economy will stay the same, while 7% said it will worsen within the year.
This translated to a net optimism score of an “excellent” +44 — the highest recorded since September 2016.
“The December 2021 net economic optimism was a continuing recovery from the mediocre -9 in July 2020, mediocre -5 in September 2020, and high +24 in November 2020,” SWS said in its report.
The pollster attributed the development to the score increases in all areas.
The nationwide survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews and included a sample of 1,440 adults. It had a ±2.6% error margin, and ± 5.2% for Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
Government officials earlier expressed confidence that the economy will make a full economic recovery with the shift of the capital region and other areas to Alert Level 1 — the lowest COVID-19 risk classification.
