Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 5) — Low-cost carrier AirAsia Philippines is increasing its flight frequency by 30% as it anticipates a surge in travelers come Holy Week.
More than 131,000 travelers are expected to fly in and out of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 4 this April, the airline pointed out in a statement Tuesday.
The company said it has started mounting more flights to key destinations in the Philippines.
Compared from last month, its weekly flight frequency in April considerably increased for the following destinations: Caticlan (41x from 34x); Iloilo (28x from 14x); Tacloban (28x from 23x); Tagbilaran (18x from 14x); Bacolod (18x from 11x); Puerto Princesa (10x from 9x); Davao (14x from 11x); Cagayan (11x from 9x); Kalibo (18x from 11x); and Cebu (26x from 21x).
AirAsia noted that its flight booking numbers have soared especially in the following places: Caticlan-Boracay (37,881), Tacloban (13,737), Panglao (13,303), Cebu (12,778) and Kalibo (11,754).
“Our main goal in the gradual increase of our flight frequency is to offer our brand of inclusive flying to more Filipinos as we embark on our path to recovery. We are also excited as we will open our newest destinations Dumaguete this week and our Roxas flights by June,” said AirAsia Philippines Head of Communication and Public Affairs and Spokesperson Steve Dailisan.
“2022 indeed is the year of recovery not only for the aviation industry but also for all industries related to it,” Dailisan added.
Local aviation authorities previously said the main gateway’s Terminal 4 may accommodate 1.5 million passengers this year once air carriers start operating at full capacity.
Earlier this month, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines highligted steps to boost their operations—both for international and domestic routes—this summer following the relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions.
