PVL: Cignal continues hot start, shocks F2 in four sets

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 20) — The Cignal HD Spikers continued their blazing start in the 2022 PVL Open Conference at the Paco Arena on Sunday.

After slaying defending champions Chery Tiggo in their first game last March 16, the HD Spikers again caught a big fish as they topped powerhouse team F2 Logistics Cargo Movers with scores of 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18.

Rachel Anne Daquis and Ces Molina scored 13 points each in the well-balanced performance of Cignal, while Ria Meneses supported them with 12 markers.

Cignal was firing from all ranges in the first two sets, notably converting their block points that belittled the towering frontline of F2.

Late in the third set, the HD Spikers are comfortable to clinch the victory with a 16-12 lead, but the Cargo Movers suddenly pounced on their offensive touches for a 13-3 scoring run to force a fourth set.

Aby Marano and Tin Tiamzon spearheaded the attacking onslaught for F2 as they took advantage of Cignal’s errors and shots that went off the mark.

The Shaq Delos Santos-mentored HD Spikers made sure not to have another late game collapse in the fourth set as substitute opposite hitter Jerrili Malabanan contributed in scoring to establish a winnable margin.

An outside service by F2 ace player Kim Kianna Dy maintained Cignal’s unbeaten slate at 2-0.

The HD Spikers’ big win was also made possible by setter Gel Cayuna, who notched 18 excellent sets throughout the match.

Tiamzon finished with 15 points while Dy added 11 markers for the Cargo Movers, who dropped to a 2-1 record.
