Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 19) – Filipino sprinter Kristina Knott had a bittersweet outing in her World Athletics Indoor Championships debut in Belgrade, Serbia.
Knott tallied her new season best time of 7.39 seconds in the women’s 60-meter category, but she failed to secure a slot in the semifinals of the event.
The Olympian sprinter finished last among eight runners in one of the event’s preliminary heats. Only the top three runners per heat advanced to the next round.
The 26-year-old Filipino trackster finished 38th out of the 47 athletes who competed in the tournament.
Knott, a holder of two national records in the women’s 100 and 200-meter runs, is expected to be part of the Philippine athletics team for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in May in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Knott was the lone Filipino athlete in the world championships after the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association did not endorse the participation of prized pole vaulter EJ Obiena.
