PAGASA declares start of dry season

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 16) – Warmer weather is expected now that the dry season has arrived, the state weather bureau announced on Wednesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the northeast monsoon or “amihan season” has come to a close, as it reported of a weakening north-easterly winds and decreasing sea level pressure.

It also explained the wind pattern “has generally shifted from north-easterlies to easterlies over most parts of the country,” signifying the start of higher temperatures.

“Furthermore, the day-to-day rainfall distribution across the country will be influenced mostly by easterlies and localized thunderstorms,” PAGASA said.

The bureau advised the public to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress, as well as to optimize the daily use of water for personal and domestic consumption.
