Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 24) — More tourists have visited the walled city of Intramuros this month, as COVID-19 cases start to dip in the country, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said Thursday.
In a statement, the DOT said it registered 38,154 same-day guests as of Feb. 23, 132% higher than January’s 28,855 visitors.
“The increase in visitors in Intramuros’ various sites reflects the optimism and confidence in travel,” Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said.
“With its vast open-space, lush gardens, and the strict implementation of health and safety protocols, Intramuros is an ideal site to visit in the new normal,” Puyat added.
Intramuros sites that are open to the public include Fort Santiago, Casa Manila Museum, and Baluarte de San Diego.
Metro Manila is under COVID-19 Alert Level 2 until the end of February.
