(CNN Philippines, February 23) — Filipino pole vaulter and Olympian EJ Obiena matched his season-best to rule the Orlen Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland.
Obiena needed three attempts on Wednesday to clear 5.81 meters which was enough to secure his second gold medal this year.
Belgium’s Ben Broeders, Thiago Braz of Brazil, and Netherland’s Menno Vloon all cleared the 5.71-meter mark, but Broeders and Braz finished at second and third place, respectively, via countback.
Obiena’s 5.81-meter performance tied the record he set earlier this year at the Orlen Cup in Lodz, Poland.
