Candidates’ supporters with ribbons, stickers allowed in military camps — Defense chief

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 20) — Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has called out the alleged harassment of a supporter of presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo in Camp Aguinaldo.

A Robredo supporter shared on Facebook that he was driving his car on his way to Camp Aguinaldo Golf Course on Friday when a military personnel “arrogantly” called him out for the pink ribbon tied to the side mirror of his car. The supporter also said he was asked to remove the ribbon from his car before he was allowed to enter the camp.

In a statement on Saturday night, Lorenzana said there is nothing wrong with placing ribbons or stickers on vehicles to show support to a candidate when inside a military camp.

“We have no business whatsoever what people put in their cars or what to wear as long as they do not violate camp regulations,” he said.

“If your car has a ribbon representing the color of a candidate or a sticker of a candidate that you support and you come inside any camp without violating regulations, that’s fine…I have directed the commanders to implement this policy strictly.”
