Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 17) – The Alaska Aces prevailed in a low-scoring affair against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 80-74, in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Olu Ashaolu delivered the victory for Alaska with 23 points and 17 rebounds, while Maverick Ahanmisi added 14 markers to improve their slate to 4-2.
The first three quarters were a close ballgame, with both squads demonstrating their defensive prowess at both ends of the floor.
But Alaska proved to be much tougher in the fourth quarter, with Ashaolu taking charge of the interior offense.
The Aces shot a 41% clip, compared to the Elasto Painters’ woeful 28% shooting.
“I can’t explain how proud I am of the guys, especially in this game. Tonight, we never gave up. There’s Rain or Shine who is always in the game and in the fight,” said Alaska head coach Jeff Cariaso.
The Aces clinched the victory a day after team owner Fred Uytengsu announced the club’s exit in the league at the end of the current conference.
