Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 17) – Filipino-American teenage prospect Caelum Harris, a 6-foot-7 swingman from Nashville, Tennessee, is the latest addition to the Gilas Pilipinas program.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced on Thursday that the 16-year-old cager has committed to the national team.
“We’re very seriously building for the future and having Caelum is just the first step in this direction,” said SBP president Al Panlilio.
Harris already obtained his Philippine passport last year, according to basketball sports agency East West Private, thus making him eligible to play as a local under FIBA rules for Gilas Pilipinas.
Harris, who traces his roots in Marigondon, Cebu, is expected to join the Gilas training sessions in March after their campaign in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers on Feb. 24-28 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The young Fil-Am cager is currently part of the Stewarts Creek High School basketball team in Smyrna, Tennessee.
