Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 12) – Fans are allowed again to watch the PBA games live starting Feb. 16, league commissioner Willie Marcial announced on Saturday.
Marcial explained the decision was made as 95% of players have already received their COVID-19 booster shots and cases in Metro Manila are already going down.
The PBA Commissioner said the league will still observe a 50% venue capacity in compliance with the national government guidelines.
Tickets for the games from Feb. 16 will be sold to the public starting Sunday, Marcial added.
He said the same health and safety protocols they implemented when the league opened its doors to fans last December will be enforced, such as being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and bringing of government IDs upon entry to the venue.
He also clarified that fans are not yet required to receive booster shots before watching the games live.
The same rules for fans will be observed when the PBA changes its venue to the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City, as the Smart Araneta Coliseum will be used for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers from Feb. 24 to 28.
The current Governors’ Cup resumed last Friday after play was halted in January due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the capital region.
