Magnitude 5.1 quake jolts Sarangani

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 11) – A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the waters off Kiamba, Sarangani Friday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The agency earlier measured the quake at magnitude 5.3.

Phivolcs added aftershocks are expected due to the tremor, which was tectonic in origin.

Intensity IV, or moderately strong vibration, was felt in the municipalities of Kiamba and Maitum in Sarangani, according to state seismologists.

They said Intensity III, or weak shaking, was also experienced in General Santos City, Cotabato City, Zamboanga City, Maasim in Sarangani, and the towns of Norala, Tupi, and Lake Sebu in South Cotabato.
