OCTA: NCR now at ‘low risk’ for COVID-19

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 10) — The National Capital Region’s COVID-19 risk level has downgraded to low, according to the OCTA Research group.

“As predicted two weeks ago, NCR improves to low risk as of Feb. 9, 2022,” OCTA Research fellow Guido David tweeted on Wednesday.

He noted that Metro Manila’s COVID-19 reproduction number in the week of Feb. 3-9 declined to 0.25 from 0.41. This refers to the average number of people who can be infected by a COVID-positive individual. A reproduction number below one means that the virus transmission is slowing down.

David also said the capital region’s hospital utilization has improved to “very low” at 29.6% from 37%. The positivity rate, on the other hand, has decreased from 15% to 9.1%, which is considered “moderate” but still above the 5% ideal level set by the World Health Organization.

The average daily attack rate, or the ratio of confirmed infections in a certain area per number of population, has also downgraded to “moderate” at 6.67 per 100,000 people from 17.83.

According to David, Metro Manila’s seven-day average number of cases last week was down to 945 from 2,525.

Metro Manila is under Alert Level 2 until Feb. 15.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Tuesday said the region’s mayors are ready to further ease restrictions to open more industries and sectors.

Latest data show that the country has a total of 3,623,176 COVID-19 cases after 3,651 new ones were reported on Wednesday.

Of the new cases, Western Visayas accounted for the most number with 523, while Metro Manila came second with 484.
