Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 4) — Presidential bet Manny Pacquiao wants to strengthen the Presidential Commission on Good Government to help bring back the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses.

“Palalakasin po natin ang PCGG at kailangang ang para sa gobyerno, sa gobyerno. Kung ‘yan ang desisyon ng Supreme Court, may desisyon na may ninakaw ka, ibalik mo,” Pacquiao said.

[Translation: We will strengthen PCGG and see to it that what belongs to the government goes to the government. If the Supreme Court ruled that you stole from the country’s coffers, return it.]

“Kasi kaya naghihirap ang bansa natin dahil sa mga magnanakaw sa gobyerno.Kailangan talagang sugpuin yan,” he added.

[Translation: The country remains poor because of thieves in the government. We need to stop them.]

The PCGG previously reported that as of September 2021, it has so far recovered about ₱174 billion worth of cash and other assets from the Marcoses and their cronies. It is still running after at least ₱125 billion more.

Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, the son and namesake of the late dictator, is leading among preferred candidates in pollster surveys.
