Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 1) — The Department of Health (DOH) announced 9,493 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the first time in nearly a month that the country’s daily rise fell below the 10,000 mark.
The lowest one-day tally since Jan. 4 brought the total case count to 3,569,665.
However, the DOH said it has yet to receive data from 10 testing laboratories which contributed around 5.5% of samples tested and 4.4% of positive results over the past two weeks.
Around 73%, or 6,961, of the newly reported infections occurred within the last 14 days, the report showed. The top three contributing regions were Metro Manila with 1,041 cases (15%), Calabarzon with 775 (11%), and Central Luzon with 696 (10%).
The department also said the disease killed 51 more patients, bringing the death toll to 54,054. Fifty of the added fatalities transpired in January, while one was from September 2021 due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya.
Recoveries, on the other hand, jumped to 3,339,558 with 24,210 new survivors.
Active cases are down to 176,053, or 4.9% of the total count. Based on the update, 164,995 of these cases are mild; 6,133 are asymptomatic; 3,070 are moderate; 1,529 are severe; and 326 are critical.
The data also said that some 31,000 coronavirus tests were reported on Jan. 30, with a 28.8% positivity rate.
Meanwhile, the DOH deleted 30 duplicates from the case count after final validation, and corrected as deaths 16 cases it earlier classified as recoveries.
On Monday, OCTA Research said the “worst is over” for most parts of the country.
Still, it noted “a significant increase” in cases has been observed in several areas in the Visayas and Mindanao, including the provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Cotabato, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, Maguindanao, Negros Oriental, Sarangani, South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat.
