SM Entertainment holds global auditions for next K-pop stars

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 30) — South Korean entertainment company SM Entertainment is opening its doors to all nationalities for its global auditions.

According to its website, the audition is open to people born between 2003 to 2011. The application period is from Jan. 31 to Feb. 20.

For the first round of the audition, aspiring K-pop idols will only need to send their photos and videos of them either singing, rapping, dancing, or acting. The second round will be offline. For those who cannot attend the onsite audition, the evaluation will be done via Zoom.

More details on the audition can be found here.

SM Entertainment, one of the forerunners in the K-pop industry, is home to popular acts such as Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, Shinee, EXO, Red Velvet, and NCT.

Training to become a K-pop idol takes months or years before debuting in a group.

With the popularity of K-pop outside South Korea, other entertainment companies have opened global auditions recently.

Big Hit Entertainment, the company behind boy group BTS, partnered with Universal Music Group last year for a new K-pop group.

Meanwhile, YG Entertainment, the home of girl group Blackpink, opened its global auditions in 2021 for an upcoming new boy group.
