Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 3) — Baguio City has temporarily suspended the approval of requests for leisure travel in the area amid the rise in COVID-19 cases and the threat of the Omicron variant.
The Baguio City Tourism Office announced on Sunday that leisure travel requests via Baguio VISITA platform are temporarily suspended starting January 2 until further notice.
The city government said that all travels with pre-approved QR-coded Tourist Pass will still be allowed entry on their declared travel dates, but subject to mandatory triage.
“Such allowed entry may change in the future but with prior announcement, so keep posted,” the advisory read.
It added that all pending travel requests are considered rejected and not allowed entry.
Authorized persons outside of residence and essential/official travels who shall register on hdf.baguio.gov.ph will be subject to documentary requirement and triage health screening.
Metro Manila is under Alert Level 3 from January 3 to 15 following the recent increase in COVID-19 infections and the detection of local Omicron variant cases.
The country on Sunday recorded 4,600 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day increase since Oct. 24, 2021.
