VP Robredo’s name used for over ₱100K-worth of fake delivery bookings, says spox

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 22) — Multiple fake delivery orders totaling over ₱100,000 were made under the name of Vice President Leni Robredo, her spokesperson said on Monday.

Atty. Barry Gutierrez said the transactions, made via the MetroMart app, were cash on delivery and were sent to the Office of the Vice President.

“Hindi na inisip ang mga delivery rider na hinassle at inaksaya ang oras. Ganito na ba talaga sila katakot sa atin?” he wrote on Twitter.

[Translation: They didn’t even consider the hassle and the waste of time this brings to the delivery riders. Is this how threatened they are by us?]

In response to the tweet, MetroMart said it has a return policy for such circumstances. It added it heightened preventive measures “to ensure this will not happen again.”

“We’re extremely saddened to hear that this event has happened, most especially for the hard-working riders and personal shoppers that shopped and delivered these grocery orders,” the company said.

Gutierrez thanked MetroMart for their assistance, saying the items have already been returned. He also noted they specifically asked that nothing be charged to the delivery riders.

“VP Leni gave the riders something to compensate them for the two hours they lost because of this scam,” he added.

The OVP is now investigating the incident after acquiring the number used to make the orders, according to Gutierrez.

“There has been some initial consultation with our lawyers, but specific options will be discussed once we get more information on who may be responsible,” he said.

Last July, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, who is also seeking the presidency in 2022, likewise fell victim to fake bookings where five riders where scammed.
