Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 5)—  San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora is seeking a second term in the 2022 elections.

He formalized his bid for reelection as he filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Tuesday.

Zamora filed his COC together with his slate, including Vice Mayor Warren Villa. They will be running under the ruling PDP-Laban party.

Zamora defeated former Vice Mayor Janella Estrada in the 2019 midterm elections — the first time former President Joseph Estrada’s family did not hold the mayoral post in San Juan since 1969.

James Yap eyes city council post

Included in Zamora’s team are some sports personalities eyeing a seat in the city council.

Basketball star James Yap and former hoopers Don Allado and Paul Artadi will be running for councilor.

Actor Ervic Vijandre is also part of the slate.

Yap said he has already informed the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and his team, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters of his decision. He clarified that he is not yet retiring despite launching his political career.

[Translation: They asked me of my plan, if I will be retiring. I said, if I win as San Juan councilor, can I also play in the PBA? They said I can.]
