
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 11) – The Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters asserted their mastery over the Blackwater Bossing, 114-92, in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.
Six Phoenix cagers registered double digits in scoring with the frontline tandem of Jason Perkins and Justin Chua contributing 17 points each to help the Fuel Masters clinch their fourth win in nine games.
Phoenix also drew big offensive contributions from Matthew Wright with 16 points, EJ Jazul with 14 markers, rookie Aljun Melecio with 11 points, and Chirs Banchero with 10.
“We try to always give our best, that’s always been our mindset coming into games. The win will be the byproduct of what we’re doing,” said Phoenix head coach Topex Robinson.
Blackwater had an explosive start in the first quarter with a 29-22 lead, but Phoenix fired 30 points in the second quarter to post a 52-50 advantage in halftime.
Phoenix pulled away in the middle of the third quarter with a 12-0 scoring run from a 57-all deadlock, which proved costly for Blackwater.
The Fuel Masters took control of the match in the fourth quarter as they kept the Bossing winless after nine games.
The winning team also shot 52% in the three-point line, making 19 of their 36 attempts.
Mike Tolomia scored a game-high 23 points to again lead Blackwater in a losing effort.
