
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 6) — Authorities have detected 279 additional cases of the more transmissible Delta variant, which accounted for the majority of the samples reviewed, the Department of Health announced on Monday. The total now stands at 2,068.
Out of the 367 samples tested, 76% were Delta variant cases. Of the newly reported Delta cases, 245 are local cases, 21 are returning overseas Filipinos, while 13 are undergoing verification.
Officials also confirmed five local Delta variant cases in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), which means the highly contagious variant is now present in all 17 regions across the country.
DOH detailed the locations of the other local Delta cases:
– 51 in Metro Manila
– 35 in Calabarzon
– 24 in Central Luzon
– 19 in Bicol Region
– 17 in Cagayan Valley
– 17 in Ilocos Region
– 14 in Eastern Visayas
– 13 in Cordillera
– 22 in Northern Mindanao
– 10 in Davao Region
– 9 in Mimaropa
– 5 in Central Visayas
– 3 in Western Visayas
– 1 in Zamboanga Peninsula
Two cases are still active, eight patients have died, 267 cases have been tagged as recovered, while the outcome of two cases are being verified.
The DOH also confirmed 29 Alpha variant cases, 28 Beta cases, and 13 P.3 variant cases in the latest batch of whole genome sequencing.
