Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 30) — A total of 250 overseas Filipino workers from Kuwait will return to the country on Tuesday, said Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Monday.
Bello said the OFWs have requested for assistance to fly back home.
“These workers have either finished their contracts or have expiring exit visas and victims of various employment contract-related violations,” he said in a statement.
Of the total, 170 are former domestic and company workers, while 80 are from the Migrant Workers Overseas Filipino Resource Center, a central hub that offers temporary shelter and assistance.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration covered the tickets of 50 distressed OFWs while the rest were shouldered by their employers, said DOLE.
Bello said the OFWs are expected to arrive in the country at 4:50 p.m. on Aug. 31 via Qatar Airways. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has approved the request of DOLE for the exemption of the special flight.
The labor secretary said they will be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival. He added that the government will provide them quarantine accommodation and transportation going back to their hometowns.
