Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 26) — The Pasay Regional Trial Court has issued an arrest warrant against a former United States diplomat for allegedly sexual abusing a female minor.
Dean Edward Cheves, 61, was charged for violating the Child Abuse Law and the Anti-Child Pornography Act after he allegedly engaged in a sexual activity with a 16-year-old he met online despite knowing the teen’s age.
In the arrest warrant, the local court asked law enforcers to apprehend Cheves and “bring him forthwith before this Court to be dealt with according to law.”
Moreover, the court has also set bail of ₱200,000 for each charge.
A federal grand jury in the U.S. state of Virginia also charged Cheves for engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place and possession of child pornography. He was stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Manila at the time the crime was reportedly committed.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra earlier said that Chevez could be extradited “subject to the provisions of our extradition treaty with the US.”
