Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 19) — The tropical depression that entered the country’s monitoring area Thursday morning is unlikely to bring any bad weather.

“Hindi ito magla-landfall. Maliit ang tiyansang direktang maapektuhan ang anumang bahagi ng ating bansa,” PAGASA senior weather specialist Chris Perez said in a briefing.

[Translation: It is not going to make landfall. There is a small chance it would affect any part of the country.]

Earlier, PAGASA weather forecasters said Isang has no chance of making landfall.

“Isang is unlikely to directly affect the weather condition and bring heavy rainfall in the country throughout the forecast period,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 11 p.m. bulletin.

Isang, the ninth cyclone to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this year, will move northwestward and exit on Sunday morning or afternoon. It may also weaken into a low-pressure area by Monday or earlier, PAGASA said.

It was last spotted 1,160 kilometers east of Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
